About the Customer

Salling Group is one of Denmark’s largest retail groups, comprising the grocery chains Netto, Føtex and Bilka, as well as the Salling department store. Together, these brands supply customers daily with groceries and nonfood products. Salling Group operates 1,300 stores across Denmark, Germany, Poland and Sweden, generating annual revenue of DKK 66 billion. Salling Group is one of the fastest-growing companies in Danish retail. For many years, the grocery giant has relied on an EDI solution from TrueCommerce to manage orders and goods.

The Solution

A key part of the central nervous system of Salling Group’s business is an EDI solution from TrueCommerce, which electronically connects suppliers across the globe. With nearly 300,000 orders per month, it is essential that the EDI solution performs reliably—otherwise customers could encounter empty shelves.

For the retail group, the benefits also include optimised workflows and savings achieved by reducing the manual handling of orders and invoices.

We have worked with TrueCommerce since the early 1990s, and today there is no doubt that we could not run our business without TrueCommerce’s EDI solution.

More Connected

Salling Group works with suppliers both in Denmark and internationally, and the company receives approximately 250,000 invoices each month.

“We use the EDI solution to manage, for example, our many invoices, orders and order confirmations, as well as all our product and price catalogues, sales data and transport instructions. With the help of TrueCommerce, we have optimised our workflows and minimised the costs associated with manual handling of invoices and orders. In this way, we have established an electronic communication channel with our suppliers around the world,” says Lars Clausen Jepsen.

A strong and reliable partnership

Lars Clausen Jepsen explains that the collaboration with TrueCommerce is regularly reviewed and benchmarked against competing solutions.

“We place very high demands on a supplier such as TrueCommerce, as the security of electronic communication with our suppliers is absolutely critical to our business. If outages occur, it can ultimately result in empty shelves—and that would be disastrous,” says Lars Clausen Jepsen.

He compares the long-standing collaboration with TrueCommerce to a marriage.

“A marriage has its ups and downs, and fortunately our partnership with TrueCommerce is largely characterised by positive, reliable experiences—and not least by their ability to resolve any issues that arise,” he says.

More Supported

Lars Clausen Jepsen and his team can always draw on consultants from TrueCommerce, who have deep insight into Salling Group’s business and understand how to resolve any challenges that may arise.

More time for customer service

“Over the years, we have had a clear ambition to optimise our workflows. This is why as much contact as possible with our suppliers, banking partners, transport providers and others takes place electronically via EDI,” explains Lars Clausen Jepsen.

Salling Group aims to minimise human involvement in the handling of invoices and orders.

“Each year, we receive several million electronic transactions. This naturally saves a significant amount of working time while also reducing the risk of errors, as everything is automated,” he says.

“Over the years, we have built an electronic infrastructure that connects our suppliers across national borders while also freeing up employee time for activities such as sales and customer service. As a result, we have achieved major process efficiencies and a significantly stronger business,” he concludes.
