About the Customer

Lambert Peat Moss is a family-owned and operated company in Canada that supplies spaghnum peat moss. It employs 400 people extracting peat moss from six peat bogs in Quebec, which it exports to 65 countries for agricultural purposes. Headquartered in Rivière-Ouelle, Quebec, Canada, Lambert Peat Moss operates a laboratory, multiple packaging plants, and a warehouse and distribution center. The company was founded in 1928 and is led by a fourth generation member of the Lambert family.

The Challenge

Lambert Peat Moss faced limitations with its existing ERP, a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises system. The company needed the ability to handle special items like freight and pallet charges for trucking companies that didn’t show up on its line items. It also needed improved ways to convert between units of measure.

Challenge #1

Their on-premises system was poorly integrated with other systems and could not handle different units of measurements and special requirements for trucking.

Challenge #2

Workers needed to manually enter orders, resulting in lost time and the potential for mistakes.

Challenge #3

They needed a cost-effective EDI integrated with their ERP to meet customer demand.

The Solution

Lambert Peat Moss began looking into ways to better integrate its systems and implement EDI. Initially, the company focused on ERP and database projects, but increasingly, customers with their own EDI implementations demanded that the company offer EDI capabilities. More than closing gaps, Lambert needed a way to manage and import EDI transactions.

Comparing pricing options, Lambert Peat Moss quickly discovered TrueCommerce. At its price point and with a turnkey offering, TrueCommerce stood out from competitors. Once their implementation project was underway, Lambert Peat Moss’ IT team was impressed by the service that TrueCommerce provided. A consultant from TrueCommerce took the reins, drove the schedule, set up meetings, and even coordinated with the company’s existing partners.

Working together, TrueCommerce, an ERP integrator, and the company’s network technician moved ahead with setting up the EDI integration. The different teams collaborated to modify the implementation for the company’s unique business needs.

I would recommend TrueCommerce. Since the time our company linked up with them, they’ve really opened my eyes to how EDI works and took care of us.

Detailed Results & Business Impact

Lambert Peat Moss saw immediate improvements because of less manual work. With the TrueCommerce solution in place, orders were flowing directly to the ERP system, saving employees time. They were able to process orders faster and expand operations. In the process, the new EDI capabilities strengthened relationships with customers by being able to meet orders more easily. Today, the company continues to use its Business Central system, working around limited internet connectivity at its rural facilities, while achieving enhanced effectiveness with EDI.
